I've been applying the theories and principles of linguistics and cognitive psychology to looking at the visual-graphic modality, particularly sequential images as found in comic books.
While I have a broad theory encompassing every facet of this study, my primary research currently looks at "visual grammar" — how sequential images are comprehended in the mind and brain.
